Today, Food Is Confusing

I want to help end the confusion surrounding food in all areas, not just around Autism treatment. Are eggs healthy for you? Are all fats bad? Is butter really good for you? Do you believe sugar free soda is a better alternative?

For years, I didn’t know if we should eat butter or margarine, eggs or bagels. I lived on auto-pilot – where donuts, double chocolate chip muffins, bagels and the occasional granola bar and banana started my day and got me through the daily grind. I ate out at lunch, and didn’t care what oils were used in preparing my food. I was really too tired to cook anything by the time I arrived home, so I might have thrown something in the microwave or had something delivered. Had there been any interest in reading labels, I wouldn’t have been able to pronounce half of the ingredients!

Our Food And Lifestyle Choices Effect Our Families’ Health

It wasn’t until my friends and I dealt with health issues in our children and ourselves, including:  autism, allergies, asthma, cancer, thyroid issues, re-occurring bladder and ear infections, rashes and the continuous use of antibiotics that my interest was sparked to ask, “Why aren’t we feeling any better?”

I’d reached a point where feeling tired and overwhelmed was normal. Conventional medicine was helping me feel better in that moment, but it wasn’t addressing the cause as to why I wasn’t feeling my best.

Conventional Medicine Doesn’t Focus Much On Prevention

It’s easy now to look back and see that prescription drugs were not the answer — what my family was eating, and our lifestyle should have been the starting point.

I’m not a purist, vegetarian or hardcore raw foodist, but I may be considered a foodie. My family eats less meat and more fruits and veggies. The type of food we put in our bodies is just as important as where the food comes from and how it is processed – and if you have children diagnosed in the Autism spectrum, it’s critical for Autism treatment and gut recovery.
